State Representative District 52 contains a very diverse mixture of communities. The population in District 52 has grown to over 220,000. Initially the District had a "2000 census" population of about 140,000.
John Gordon assisted then Republican State Representative Mike Krusee in designing the District's current shape during the 2001 legislative redistricting process.

- organized petitions to roll back excessive Austin electrical rates through PUC rate making procedures.
- fought for additional polling places & precincts during the area's heyday of growth.
- organized voter registration drives across the area.
- developed campaign literature addressing predatory annexation of area by Austin.
- helped install the initial lighting for the Town & Country soccer and baseball fields.
- bringing free Orchestra concerts to the area.
Round Rock / surrounding MUDs
- helped build a soccer association.
- coached several hundred youth in soccer and Little League.
- lead efforts on major civic issues
- managed the birth and growth of a symphony orchestra
- lead numerous civic organizations.
- great grandfather worked in the "Round Rock broom factory"
Georgetown
- help found the Williamson County Republican Party
- born in Georgetown - fifth generation of Gordon in Georgetown
- great-grandfather, father & uncle are graduates of Southwestern University - wife Ruth took courses
- helped elect numerous county officeholders.
- bringing free Orchestra concerts to area.
Hutto / Taylor / rural east
- helped in the initial 1993 Turn-Around -Taylor street campaign against crack dealers.
- helped Hutto in its fight against the 345-kV transmission line design
- great-grand parents buried in the Hutto cemetery.
- developed drip irrigation control systems for agricultural and municipals use
